The Wartime Escape of Curious George: Margret and H.A. Rey’s Journey From France

Description EXHIBITION OPENING DAY: Curious George and the series of books that chronicle his mischievous adventures has been a favorite of children all over the world for decades. However, few people know about the incredible journey of his creators, Margret and H.A. Rey, German Jewish refugees who were forced to flee Paris along with thousands of other refugees after the Nazi invasion of France, June 1940. The original Curious George Manuscript were among the few possessions they managed to take with them, riding bicycles south towards freedom on a five month journey that would take them to Spain, Portugal, Brazil and eventually New York. Told via a series of beautiful watercolors, the exhibition explores the Rey’s early creative collaborations, their escape and traces the story of how George himself (originally titled The Adventures of Fifi) spanned the wartime period. This exhibition is part of Holocaust Education Week, a community-wide program of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, a Committee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. All events are free of charge and open to the public. Due to limited seating, those interested in attending Holocaust Education Week events are encouraged to make reservations by clicking a link below or calling 305.538.1663. The exhibition will run from January 28 to March 17, 2018.
